[ R-RUDE. Though, he takes it as a compliment, and doesn't retaliate even though Ryuko is being violent as usual. His posture adjusts before he clears his throat. ]
Fu haha. Have you missed auntie's cooking, Ryuko-chaaaan? If that's the case, admit that you've missed it and love it. I'll fix you something nice.
[ truth be told, he's actually a very good cook. ]
Ah. You've always been such a spoiled, rotten child— but still you're auntie's favorite. [ he's.. turning? He's going back to the kitchen?? His hands are folded meekly as he walks, holding a very precise posture. ]
Is chicken curry and rice still your favorite? [ that actually.. sounds pretty good. ]
Splendid. That's what we will cook then. [ Katsura disappears into the kitchen and the typical sounds of dishes clanking together is heard. If Ryuko has the nerve to check on him, it's absolutely nothing out of the ordinary.
He is preparing food, and something about how he does it seems very organized. He's humming while he's doing this????? And he isn't talking like he usually does.
[ OF COURSE she's going to keep an eye on this weirdo. In fact, she's sitting quite nearby, on the kitchen stool by the bench, quietly observing his meticulous ways.
Are they actually hanging out? This is entirely awful. ]
[ He keeps his back to Ryuko as he does his thing; miraculously they have mostly everything he needs to make this dish; some way, some how. Sure, he really did miss a lot of people back home.
There were all of his followers back home; Zura had a huge following and was surprisingly very respected by rebellious samurai who were just like him. That's what happened when you led your own faction.
There was his sidekick and companion, though he considered it a pet despite it being a human-like creature in a bedsheet. Elizabeth had been with him through thick and thin, and despite Amanto leaving an awful taste in his mouth, he can't help but flood all of his adoration into Elizabeth. Elizabeth, in return, seems to give Katsura just as much of his affection. Their relationship was really questionable; Elizabeth's existence itself was questionable but he had busted Katsura out of jail before and defended him when he needed it most.
There was his drunkard merchant friend who was too busy traveling through space, but Katsura often thought about him. There was Takasugi, a childhood friend who went off the handlebars, and despite them being enemies, he couldn't help but wonder what he was doing, hoping he hadn't set something on fire and killed innocent people again.
There was his childhood friend and partner in crime, Gintoki, who is somebody he treasured even with their bickering and harassment. If it wasn't for Gintoki, he would have been dead by now.
The noodle-shop girl, Ikumatsu, whom he felt feelings for when she went out of her way to assist him. Even those stupid Bakufu dogs— the Shinsengumi— he was really missing playing cops and robbers with them.
The response takes awhile, but finally he says: ]
A warrior is strong enough to proceed forward in tough times. I've learned to harden my heart against such trifling things like missing anyone... Hah.
Ezurako. [ She playfully corrects him again. Don't try to bamboozle her. ]
I dunno, would ya really say you're hardening your heart while dressed like that and cleaning stranger's apartments? Sounds like classic abandonment issues 101. [ As if she knows anything about psychology. ]
A..Abandonment issues! Hmph. The mannerisms of a samurai are just too complicated for you to understand Matoi-dono. Though, you should learn them. You'd make a good samurai. You should starts with a Buddhist proverb: Do not think lightly of good, that nothing will come of it. A whole toilet will fill up from dripping drops of urine soon enough.
[ a pause in his words, then he stops preparing the food. ]
Since you won't stop asking [ she hasn't asked again ] I'll tell you. As you may have known, I am missing my pet the most. It's unusual to not have Elizabeth by my side.
[ He doesn't answer her question. Instead, while some of the items are now cooking, he pulls out from somewhere a little wanted poster with their mugshots and rather impressive reward under it.
Here's what Elizabeth looks like in this specific picture.
There are tears forming in the corners of his eyes. ]
Isn't she wonderful? Ah, I hope she is being a good girl back home.
[ She takes a look at the picture, then glances back at Katsura to see if he's serious. Yes, of course he's god damn serious. She gives the picture one more look, trying to comprehend anything he has said about this pet so far. ]
...
I don't know what I expected.
[ Give her a minute to recollect herself from this latest mindfuck. ]
[ Just the sight of seeing Elizabeth causes tears to swell. His precious, adorable and violent companion. He was taken from a critical canon point that revolved around Elizabeth and his tribe of people. Katsura wasn't sure what terms they were on now. ]
NEAAAAR, FAR, WHERE EVER YOU ARE— I WILL ALWAYS BE IN YOUR HEART, ELIZABETHZUUUUU!
[ BLOWS SNOT, TEARS, was that blood coming of his nose too, never mind. Thankfully, he has a handkerchief there in his bosom (??) or something. He'll just clean himself up there. ]
S-She was starting to talk more in public instead of just to me. I hope Elizabeth is faring well at home.
[ .. if he made it home, however. Elizabeth's identity was just recently revealed to Zura, but he still is deluded that Elizabeth is his precious avian pet. ]
Ah, here we are at the beach, too. [ hands Ryuko this photo from somewhere on his person. ]
A-And revolting against the government. [ See here. ]
[ Th-this idiot... One one hand she wants to throw him out of the window, but on the other her stomach is undeniably making some strong growling noises. ]
It smells good, surprisingly. I'm still gonna have you taste it first, though -- just to be sure and all.
